Leaving Torres del Paine National Park was just as stunning as the whole week had been. Truly a bucket list trip but thankfully it wasn’t over yet…
Ultra marathon #3 complete! This one was a doozy! With the time change of driving to another state we got about 4.5 hours of sleep the night before waking at 4:30. Running in 80 degree Phoenix sun was also quite a challenge after coming from the snow! This course also had a couple miles of ‘navigating’ down a canyon where there wasn’t really a trail and there were huge ‘tanks’ of water (I watched someone fall in the sludge up to their neck!) at mile 28. Despite the challenges and this race thoroughly kicking my ass it was a blast! Super stoked that @the.jl.story decided to rally some troops for some out of state adventure fun! Next race: California!
When there’s a shit storm going on in the mountains where you live and there’s no power for a week you go to the beach! Santa Cruz never disappoints…
Before Braden flew home we did get to check out Moaning Caverns, the largest single chamber cave in California. It was dope. For some reason I got the Fraggle Rock theme song stuck in my head going down those stairs.
Last spring I went on a massive road trip in the South. What I absolutely love about road trips is discovering places that you had no idea existed before and before you leave it’s just a place on a map. After you visit, you wonder how many special places like this exist that you don’t know about yet? Caddo Lake State Park in Texas was one of them. I arrived to my campsite right by the water as a flood warning was in effect for the area. I didn’t get much sleep as the rain pounded on my vehicle and I imagined it being washed away down the bayou. The next day, of course, was stunning 🤩. My only regret is not capturing a video of the swarms of fire flys that lit up the sky before the storm started. But at least that memory will forever be etched in my brain.
Day 6 on the W route! It had rained and Dawn felt terrible for a few days before so I didn’t really think she was going to be game to meet in the middle of the night to hike the several miles to the towers by sunrise but hot damn that little devil was rip roaring and ready to go! We made it up there just in time to see the sun rise and get snowed on! It was sooo cold 🥶 but so worth it! We weren’t even sure if we were going to be able to do this hike because of the rangers being on strike but it was the cherry 🍒 on top of our sundae to our backpacking trip. Always make the effort to wake up for those sunrise shots!!
